What Does a Watermelon Martini Taste Like?
Sweet, juicy watermelon complemented by the smoothness and rounded mouthfeel of Absolut Vodka.
The History of the Watermelon Martini
The exact history of the Watermelon Martini is unknown, but it’s likely that this cocktail was created at a certain popular and trendy London bar during the 1990s, renowned for both turning away A-listers and for popularizing fresh fruit martinis.
Tips for Making the Perfect Watermelon Martini
The Watermelon Martini contains just three ingredients, which means it’s those tiny details that make all the difference to the end result.
- Choose a ripe watermelon
A ripe and juicy watermelon means a sweeter, tastier drink. How do you choose a ripe watermelon for your Watermelon Martini? First look, for a large, creamy yellow field spot where the melon rested on the ground – this indicates ripeness.Another way of choosing a ripe watermelon is to tap the watermelon gently; a deep, hollow sound suggests it’s ripe, while a dull thud may indicate overripe. Choose a watermelon with a “dull” rind rather than shiny, as shiny means it’s underripe. Heavier melons hold more water, making them juicier and ideal for your cocktail.
- Pre-chill your glassware
Make sure to chill your martini glass 30 minutes to 2 hours ahead of time. It’s those little details that makes a good drink an incredible one.

The Watermelon Martini is an easy cocktail to make but like most other martini variations, the art lies in the execution and presentation.
- Being that the Watermelon Martini is a martini, we recommend serving the drink in a martini glass. It’s elegant and somehow just makes the drink that much better.
- Garnish your drink by placing a big, chunky watermelon wedge on the side of your glass so your cocktail screams “WATERMELON!”
