Pornstar Martini cocktail RECIPE

The Pornstar Martini – if the name doesn’t grab your attention, its tropical flavors and truly one-of-a-kind presentation will.

 When you read the name ‘Martini’, you might think of a classic Martini made with Gin, Vermouth and garnished with an Olive and/or Lemon Twist. But the Pornstar Martini belongs to the group of Fresh Fruit Martinis aka Fruitinis that emerged in the 90s.

 Also known as the Passion Star Martini, this popular modern classic is bursting with flavors of tart Passion Fruit, sweet Pineapple and smooth Vanilla (thank you Absolut Vanilia!). It’s traditionally served with a shot of Champagne (or Prosecco) on the side, which not only balances out the sweetness but brings a sense of glam and celebration.

How to Make a Pornstar Martini Cocktail

What You’ll Need

• Cocktail Shaker
• Paring Knife 
• Jigger or Measuring Instrument 
• Cocktail Glass
• Muddler
• Hawthorne Strainer
• Fine Strainer
• Shot Glass

How to Mix

1. Using a Paring Knife, cut a medium-thick Pineapple Slice.
2. Grab a Cocktail Shaker and add the Pineapple Slice.
3. Use a Muddler to mash up the Pineapple.
4. Pour Absolut Vanilia, Passion Fruit Pulp, Vanilla Syrup, and Passion Fruit Purée into the Shaker.
5. Add Ice Cubes to the Shaker.
6. Give everything a vigorous shake.
7. Grab a Hawthorne Strainer together with a Fine Strainer and double strain the mix into a chilled Cocktail Glass.
8. Using a Paring Knife, cut one Passion Fruit in half.
9. Top off your cocktail with a floating half of Passion Fruit.
10. Serve alongside a shot of ice-cold Champagne (or Prosecco) and enjoy!

The History of The Pornstar Martini

Born in London in 2002, this cocktail was the brainchild of a late Ghanaian-born bartender, bar owner and entrepreneur. Originally dubbed the Maverick Martini after a Cape Town nightclub, it quickly gained a reputation as the ultimate drink.

According to its creator, the goal of the name wasn’t to stir up controversy but to craft a drink that’s stylish, sexy and confident.

In 2019, a British retail chain decided to rename their Pornstar Martini products as the Passion Star Martini. Today, both names are used interchangeably.

Tips for Making The Perfect Pornstar Martini

• Muddle the pineapple
  To start, you’ll need a slice of Pineapple. Once you’ve cut a slice, remove the tough core.. Since we’ll be muddling this drink, it’s important that we only use the softer bits.. Use the muddler to smash up the Pineapple, making sure to release all the juices. This process will also release complex proteins, which will add body to your drink and help build that foamy head on top. 
• Use Ripe Passion Fruit
  Buy your Passion Fruit a couple of days before you plan to make this cocktail. That will allow your Passion Fruit to ripen and become sweeter and more delicious! But if you’re buying your Passion Fruit on the same day as you plan to make your cocktail, be sure to choose a ripe Passion Fruit. How can you tell a ripe Passion Fruit? It will be plump and fully colored, e.g. dark purple. Passion Fruits with wrinkled skin are super ripe and have a sweeter taste than non-wrinkled fruits. 
• Make your own Passion Fruit Purée
  If you can’t find Passion Fruit Purée at your grocery store, it’s easy to make yourself. Simply add the pulp of a few Passion Fruits to a Blender, along with one teaspoon of water per fruit and some sugar to taste. Blend the mixture, then strain it through a Fine Mesh Sieve.
  
• Shake it baby
  When shaking your Cocktail Shaker, remember you’re trying to wake the drink to life rather than rock it to sleep! As Rico encourages, you’ll want to give it a powerful shake to achieve a creamy consistency, which you’ll get from the Fresh Pineapple Juice.
• Patience is perfection – strain it properly!
  “You’ll need to double strain your drink using a Hawthorne Strainer together with a Fine Strainer,” shares Rico. “It’s gonna take a little bit of a while just to get all of this drink out. That’s because the Fresh Pineapple kind of acts like a filter with all those fibers in there.” So, be patient while straining – it’ll be worth the wait trust us.

• Absolut Long Pornstar Martini
  This variation, like all “Long Drinks”, is essentially a simplified, easier-to-make version of the original. The extra mixer in long drinks make lighter and more ideal for, well, longer sipping. It blends Absolut Vanilia, Malibu Original, and Passion Fruit Juice, then garnished with a slice of Pineapple, creating a tropical symphony.
