What is a Strawberry Daiquiri?
The Strawberry Daiquiri is one of the most popular variations of a classic Daiquiri cocktail made with light rum, muddled strawberries, lime juice and simple syrup.
What Does a Strawberry Daiquiri Taste Like?
A Strawberry Daiquiri is sweet, slightly tart, and irresistibly delicious. There’s the smooth, clean, and subtly sweet taste of Cuban light rum, with hints of vanilla and citrus. Fresh lime adds a mouthwatering zesty edge, while strawberries contribute a rich, sweet, fruity depth.
The History of the Strawberry Daiquiri
While the exact origins of the Strawberry Daiquiri are unclear, and it’s unknown when strawberries were first added to a classic Daiquiri. However, we do know more about the history of the Daiquiri.
The original Daiquiri is thought to have been created by an American mining engineer in Cuba at the end of the 19th century. It gained popularity in the United States during the 1940s and, today, the Daiquiri is one of the most popular rum drinks in the world with the Strawberry Daiquiri being the most popular variation.
Tips for Making the Perfect Strawberry Daiquiri
- Chill your glassware in advance
In general, serving a cocktail in a chilled glass enhances the overall drinking experience, and this absolutely holds true for a Strawberry Daiquiri. Place your glassware in the freezer 30 minutes to 2 hours in advance. - Double strain your Daiquiri
When muddling fruit for a cocktail like the Strawberry Daiquiri, we recommend that you double strain your drink. This prevents unwanted fruit pieces ending up in your teeth, ensuring a smoother, better drink experience. How do you double strain a cocktail? Place a Hawthorne strainer over the larger tin of your Boston shaker, then pour the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into the glass.
