Bourbon, cuyo nombre proviene del primer lugar en el que se elaboró, es la forma americana del whisky. El bourbon está hecho de maíz (al menos un 51%) y otras materias primas como el trigo, el centeno y cebada malteada. Para que pueda denominarse bourbon, por ley, debe almacenarse en barriles de roble durante un mínimo de dos años. El whisky americano es un licor para combinados excelente, ya que su sabor no es tan dominante como el escocés.
