All about the Paradise Punch
The Paradise Punch is a shaken cocktail that channels tiki vibes, even without rum. It blends vodka, amaretto (almond-flavored liqueur), peach-flavored bourbon, lime cordial, orange juice, pineapple juice, and a splash of grenadine (pomegranate syrup).
The Paradise Punch is one to serve at large summer parties, BBQs, and tiki-themed parties.
Tiki and tropical. The Paradise Punch tastes very much like a punch – rich, sweet fruity and tangy, You’ll experience the warmth and sweetness from the peach-flavored bourbon and the marzipan-like sweetness from the amaretto, which blend beautifully with the tangy pineapple and orange juice. The lime cordial adds a tart-sweetness, while the vodka holds everything together to deliver a tangy yet smooth-sipping punch.
The exact origin and history of the Paradise Punch unknown. However, what we do know is that punch itself dates back to the early 17th century. The first written mention of punch appeared in 1632, and the earliest recorded recipe followed in 1638, originating with British sailors in India.
Traditional punches were primarily made with rum, brandy, or wine. Bourbon and vodka, like featured in the Paradise Punch, were introduced later. It’s believed that bourbon began appearing in 18th and 19th-century milk punches, whereas vodka appeared later in 20th-century recipes.
It’s not known whether the Paradise Punch is a late 20th century or 21st century cocktail.
- Use Fresh Ice Cubes
Old or watery Ice Cubes can dull the flavors, so use fresh ones for the best taste. - Chill Your Highball Glass
Pop your Highball Glass in the fridge or with some Ice Cubes first to keep your Paradise Punch colder for longer. - Don’t Over-Shake
Once the Cocktail Shaker feels cold on your hands, you’re done. Over-shaking can water down the drink.
- Lime juice instead of lime cordial
If you don’t have lime cordial or want more ‘bite’ and zest, replace it with fresh lime juice. You’ll lose some sweetness, but there are plenty of rich and sweet flavors in the drink, so you won’t really miss it. The acidity and zest will cut through the sweetness. - Ginger beer
Top off your drink with ginger beer for some welcome carbonation and a nice spicy zing. You can skip the lime cordial and shake all the other ingredients. After pouring your cocktail into a highball glass, leave space at the top to add ginger beer. - Traditional bourbon
If you can’t get your hands on peach-flavored bourbon, you can most certainly use traditional bourbon. You’ll lose the peach notes, but the woody and caramel flavors will still shine through, complemented by the fruitiness of the pineapple, orange juice, and lime cordial. - Peach vodka
To enhance the drink’s peach flavors, opt for peach-flavored vodka instead of unflavored vodka. You can either swap the peach-flavored bourbon for traditional bourbon or double down on the peach by using both peach-flavored bourbon and peach-flavored vodka!
- We recommend serving a Paradise Punch in a highball glass with ice cubes. When you’ve got a cocktail with that many ingredients and liquid, you need a tall glass.
- For garnish, we recommend a maraschino cherry, which works incredibly well with the amaretto, not to mention the tangy fruit flavors.
- If you’d like to garnish your Paradise Punch will something in addition to a maraschino cherry, we recommend an orange wedge or an orange wheel.
- If you want to go all-out tiki, garnish your drink with a pineapple wedge, an orange wheel, and a maraschino cherry!
