1. Mint Julep

Although the earliest known mention of the Mint Julep dates back to 1770, it truly found its popularity during the 1950s and ’60s.

Made with Bourbon, Mint Leaves, Simple Syrup, and Crushed Ice, served in its own Julep Cup, the Mint Julep is effortlessly cool, just like the 60s blending fresh Minty goodness with the smooth Caramel notes of Bourbon. Discover the recipe for the Mint Julep.

2. Mai Tai
The Mai Tai is one of the most famous and beloved Tiki drinks of all time, period. Although it’s said to have been invented in the early 1940s, it really came into popularity during the 50s and 60s. So, if you’re planning a 60s era cocktail party, a Mai Tai is a must!

The tiki classic mixes rich Dark Rum, zesty Lime Juice, Almond Syrup, reminiscent of Marzipan, and Orange Curaçao (or Triple Sec) that adds a sweet fruitiness to it. Each sip is the perfect balance of sweet and tangy, much like a fruity punch. Here’s how to make Trader Vic’s Mai Tai.

The Gimlet is an easy to make stirred drink where the botanical notes of the Gin combine perfectly with the Lime Cordial to create a drink that hits all the right notes.

A stellar example of elegance and simplicity, here’s how to make a classic Gimlet.

4. Bloody Mary
The Bloody Mary isn’t just one of the best savory cocktails ever invented; it’s also renowned as a brunch essential and has been since the 1960s.

5. Dirty Martini
If you want to add some sophistication to your 60s themed party, then the Dirty Martini will do the trick.

Made with Gin, a hint of Dry Vermouth, and Olive Brine, the Dirty Martini stands as a timeless cocktail icon and one of the most popular savory cocktails of all time.

In the ’60s, Martinis were most often made with Vodka rather than Gin. So, if you prefer Vodka, check out our Vodka Martini recipe. Otherwise, let us show you
how to make a classic Dirty Martini with Gin.

6. Gibson Martini
Everyone loves a Martini, so we’re adding another Martini that was loved as much in the 60s as it is today.

Like the Dry Martini above, the Gibson Martini is made with Gin and Dry Vermouth, but it skips both the Olive Brine and opts for a Cocktail Onion or two instead.

The light Onion flavor marries perfectly with the botanical notes from the Gin, resulting in an elegant sipper that will transform your home lounge room to a sophisticated 60s cocktail bar. Learn how to make a Gibson Martini.

7. Tom Collins

A classic Gin-based cocktail that goes back to the 1880s, the Tom Collins has remained an unwavering favorite through the years, with the ’60s being no exception.

The Tom Collins has inspired countless cocktails with its timeless blend of Gin, Fresh Lemon Juice, a touch of Simple Syrup, and Soda Water. Garnished with a Cherry and a Lemon Wedge, it’s a perfect drink and always a crowd pleaser. Learn how to make a Tom Collins.

8. Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned is a cocktail that dates to the 19th century and is arguably the most iconic Whiskey drink of all time.

Its popularity surged again in recent decades, thanks in part to its prominent feature in a popular TV series about 1960s advertising executives, with it being the go-to drink for the main character.

Despite its legendary status, an Old Fashioned is surprisingly simple to make. A classic Old Fashioned combines Bourbon, Simple Syrup, and a few dashes of Angostura Bitters, garnished with Orange Zest.

Timeless and elegant, discover how to make a classic Old Fashioned.

9. Brandy Alexander
The Brandy Alexander was THE cocktail to order during the 1960s and its allure is ever strong today.

This luxurious after-dinner sipper is another classic that you may have seen in the above-mentioned iconic TV series set in the 1960s.

Made with Cognac, Dark Cacao Liqueur, and Cream, garnished with Nutmeg and served in a pre-chilled Coupe Glass, it’s a dessert cocktail like no other. Discover the recipe for a Brandy Alexander.

10. Moscow Mule
The Moscow Mule is one of the most popular cocktails around. In fact, it ranked third place in our list of most popular cocktails last year.

Invented in the 1940s, the Mule remains a timeless favorite, making it perfect for any occasion, including a 60s-themed cocktail party.

Served in its iconic Copper Mug, the beloved and distinct flavor combination of Absolut Vodka, Ginger Beer, and Fresh Lime Juice proves that the Moscow Mule is as much about style as it is about flavor and popularity.
