O coquetel ácido foi reconhecido em meados do século XIX e consiste em qualquer tipo de destilado junto com suco de limão e xarope de açúcar. Em algumas variações, também era adicionada clara de ovo. Esta bebida é servida em um copo old-fashioned com gelo. Assim como o Whiskey Sour.
