Smash Variations

The Smash is an open-ended cocktail, freely variable and seasonally flexible. Like many cocktails, the question of the Smash’s exact definition is a little muddled. But the main features of the Smash are fresh fruit, spirit, sugar and served over crushed ice. Although regaining it’s popularity in recent years, Smashes have been around for centuries. One of the earliest examples of a Smash appears in the form of a julep recipe in Jerry Thomas’ 1862 How to Mix Drinks or The Bon Vivant’s Companion. However, today it’s pretty safe to say the Caprioska sets the standard of what a contemporary Smash should be.
