The History of Warhol’s Milk Punch
When planning the launch of the 2024 Absolut Warhol limited-edition bottle, Absolut and the Warhol Foundation wanted to create a cocktail that represented Andy Warhol and reignite the original collaboration between Andy Warhol and Absolut.
Serving and Garnish Ideas for Warhol’s Milk Punch
- Pour Warhol’s Milk Punch directly into a Rocks Glass or Old-Fashioned Glass filled with a large chunk of ice.
- To garnish Warhol’s Milk Punch, use an Edible Cocktail Topper. Or if you don’t have access to an edible food printer, use a Banana Chip and then grate some chocolate directly into your glass. Delicious!
Warhol’s Milk Punch was created by Absolut Global Brand Ambassador and Bartender Ricardo ‘Rico’ Dynan, inspired by Andy Warhol’s sweet tooth. When creating this cocktail, Rico researched Warhol’s diet and what flavors he liked and then took these findings to create a drink that Warhol himself would enjoy.
Rico discovered that Andy Warhol loved Cereal, especially Corn flakes, Bananas, and had Chocolate. Rico wondered how he could put all these ingredients together and discovered that the only way was through a Milk Punch.
Andy Warhol was well known for his sweet tooth and was said to have loved corn flakes. We’re confident that Warhol’s Milk Punch is something Andy would have not only approved of but drank himself. Here’s to you, Andy!
Once made, Warhol’s Milk Punch will last in your refrigerator or at cellar temperatures for approximately six months.
Absolut Vodka, of course! After all, Warhol’s Milk Punch was invented using Absolut Vodka Original.
As Andy Warhol once said, “The idea of waiting for something makes it more exciting”. After all, good things are worth waiting for, right?
To perfect Warhol’s Milk Punch, you need to prepare and store the mix in a refrigerator overnight on day one. On day two, you need to blend the mix with the other ingredients before refrigerating again. After refrigerating for several hours, you’re now ready to serve Warhol’s Milk Punch.
There are many stories as to how Warhol came to work with Absolut. One is that he first spotted a bottle of Absolut Vodka across the bar in a famous New York nightclub and was seduced by its apothecary-inspired bottle.
In 1985, Warhol first created his own personal, artistic interpretation of the Absolut bottle silhouette as part of the Absolut Art campaign. Today, the original silk-screen painting ‘Absolut Warhol’ is considered iconic. But that wouldn’t be the only collaboration between Warhol and Absolut. A second Warhol painting was rumored to exist but remained overlooked until Warhol’s Absolut ‘Blue’ painting was rediscovered in 2020.
Today, the recovered Absolut ‘blue’ painting is back in the public eye. In collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Absolut is celebrating the rediscovered Warhol painting and using the bottle as a canvas to reignite the original collaboration, championing how the power of mixing people, ideas and identities through creativity can challenge convention.
In July 2024 Absolut Warhol limited-edition bottle was launched. Absolut Warhol celebrates the legacy of collaboration between two historical icons, Andy Warhol and Absolut Vodka, mixing the past into the present.
