Step-by-step instructions:

  1. In a shaker, gently muddle the basil leaves and lemon juice together, giving them a good old smash.
  2. Throw in your simple syrup and Absolut Vodka.
  3. Top it all up with ice, and give it a hearty shake! You want everything well-mixed.
  4. Using a strainer, pour out your creation into a rocks glass full of ice.
  5. To finish off, pop a few basil leaves on top for garnish. And voila! You’ve got yourself a Vodka Basil Smash.

Ready to learn about the Vodka Basil Smash? It’s a pretty neat drink, a nice mix of basil freshness with the citrus zing of lemon, all mellowed down with simple syrup and kicked up a notch with Absolut vodka.

Oh, where is it from? Good question! A barrtender in Hamburg whipped up the original Basil Smash or the Gin pesto as it was called in 2008, and it’s been smashing records ever since, even picking up a “Best New Cocktail” award. It originally had Gin, but we’re partial to the version with Absolut Vodka which gives it a cooler, clearer taste of basil and lemon.
