El cóctel ácido fue reconocido a mediados del siglo XIX y consiste en cualquier tipo de licor junto con jugo de limón y jarabe de azúcar. En algunas variaciones se incluía clara de huevo. Esta bebida se sirve en un vaso old-fashioned lleno de hielo. Igual que el Whiskey Sour.
