ALL ABOUT THE BLUE JAY SHOT
The Blue Jay is a blue-colored shot made with vodka, blue curaçao and milk. It is shaken with ice and served in a pre-chilled shot glass.
The Blue Jay is sweet, citrusy and frothy. You get the sweet orange flavor from the blue curaçao and the smoothness of vodka and milk. The milk adds a frothy texture without being overly thick or creamy.
Little is known about the Blue Jay. But judging from its neon color, it’s likely to have originated in the 1980s when blue-colored drinks were all the rage.
- Pre-chill your shot glass
The Blue Jay should be served as cold as possible, so pre-chill your shot glass. Place your shot glass(es) in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes. A cold shot from a cold glass is the ultimate way to enjoy a Blue Jay! - Chill your vodka
We recommend storing your vodka in the freezer and making your Blue Jay shot with perfectly chilled vodka. Chilled vodka is smoother and thicker with a higher viscosity, enhancing its mouthfeel and richness.
- Use cream instead of milk
If you want a thicker, creamer and more indulgent shot, use heavy cream instead of milk. Instead of a frothy texture, you’ll have a shot that’s thick and creamy. - Use flavored vodka
Where blue curaçao is orange-flavored, you can add other citrus elements to your Blue Jay by swapping original Absolut Vodka for Absolut Citron, Absolut Grapefruit or Absolut Lime for a citrus-forward shot. - Blue Kamikaze
Like the Blue Jay, this blue shot shakes together equal parts vodka, blue curaçao and fresh lime juice for a sweet-sour and tangy citrus explosion. - Kamikaze
You might lose the blue color but you get all the delicious citrus flavor. A classic Kamikaze shot combines vodka, triple sec and lime juice. And it’s ctirus heaven. Check out the recipe for a Kamikaze shot. - Blue Lagoon
This classic blue drink mixes 1-part vodka, 1-part blue curaçao and 4 parts lemonade. Shaken with ice and served in a Hurricane glass with a maraschino cherry and a lemon wheel. It’s a summe retro classic!
The Blue Jay should be served in a chilled shot glass…no garnish needed as that neon blue color is enough!
If you’re set on always having a garnish, opt for a lime wedge, lemon wedge, or orange wedge
