Classic Cocktails

A classic cocktail is hard to beat. Simple and easy to make, they never go out of style. Think about the staple that you find yourself ordering over and over again. These classic cocktails pioneered the more innovative drinks that we see today. Simple favorites carry with them a legacy and a tale to tell: captured moments from times gone by. Whether truth or rumor, we bring history to life, and life to history with every Absolut classic cocktail. David Embury’s book “The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks”, was published in 1948 and is recognized as one of the first pieces of literature about everyone’s favorite subject. It categorizes cocktails and ingredients, all with a witty and conversational tone. Embury includes six basic cocktails that we still love to sip on today. Start your own legacy as we discuss a few of these cult classics. A daiquiri might not be what comes to mind as a classic cocktail, but we are skewed by the frozen variety. The classic version originated in Cuba in the early 20th century and is a refined choice. With aged Cuban rum, lime juice, simple syrup and a lime wedge, there’s no guessing why it’s a simple, classic favorite. The whiskey-based Manhattan is definitely easily associated with classic cocktails. Served in a chilled cocktail glass, this mix of bitters, whiskey and sweet vermouth is topped with a Maraschino cherry. Today, you can also find this favorite with a splash of Maraschino Liqueur for a bit of extra flavor. A Martini’s v-shaped glass is almost as icon as the drink itself. This century old classic boasts pure simplicity with a mixture of dry vermouth and gin. Traditionally garnished with an olive, today you can find many variations of this classic drink with different flavors and out-of-this-world garnishes. Originally created during prohibition to improve the taste of bad quality liquor, the Old Fashioned has become a notable classic choice. Originally made with American whiskey, simple syrup and several dashes Angostura bitters, it is often garnished with a Maraschino cherry and a lemon peel. Classic cocktails are a great way to bring elegance to any occasion or even to your after work drink. Order one of these at the bar and the bartender is sure to serve it up just right, just as they’ve been doing for all these years. Cheers to the best of classic cocktails!
