A good mixologist is prepared. And no mixologist is ready to go without simple syrup. It's in a Tom Collins, Mint Julep, Daiquiri, Mojito, French 75, in short, you'll need simple syrup often. It's simple to make but you have to do it in advance.
Simple syrup ingredients
- 1 part sugar
- 1 part water
Bring the water to a boil. Dissolve the sugar into boiling water, stirring constantly. Once the sugar is dissolved completely, remove the pan from the heat. (Note: Do not allow the syrup to boil for too long or the syrup will be too thick.) Allow to cool completely and thicken, then bottle. Once you've made it a few times, you can experiment with the proportions of sugar and water to get it exactly the way you want.
